why do you want you use what is essentially carrier bags strung together for winching? buy another stell rope for £20 and dont worry about it.

Synthetic is over rated and over priced.

Dyneema is brilliant for what it was designed for. Climbing ropes and boot laces. but for winching where it can get full of grit and oil etc it's useless

Plasma's the same ****e. Dyneema is the trade name. get a steel rope they'll last 20 times longer than a plasma/dyneema rope and a steel one won't rot if left exposed to sunlight unlike plasma/dyneema ropes which are UV unstable. :eek:
 
We use dyneema in the climbing world, its stronger and lighter than nylon but melts very quickly with friction !! Don't know if this helps !!! Iggi:d

i was out off roading last weekend forest run, several landys got stuck and had to be winched out, it was a warn 8274 winch with plasma rope that did all the work to get them out using 4 plasma 125ft extension ropes, total winching time continuous over four hours to get four landys out firking real impressive both the winch and the ropes

no way would a wire rope be as fast or as safe mind now made up:D:D:D
 
the speed of the winch line is down to the 8274 not the synthetic line. Its the quickest winch on the market.

i use plasma rope and wont use anything else.if youve ever seen a wire rope let go it will scare the **** outta ya.i have and promptly removed mine the next day.a plasma rope will simply fall to the ground if it lets go with minimum recoil

there also a bloomin damm site lighter than wire

even if you wear gloves and have small wire splinters on the wire rope they feckin urt even with gloves on

everyone has there own views,but i do a lot of winch challenges and out of all the people that take part in theese events i havent seen one wire rope equiped winch,must say summit for the plasma
 
If I were winching day in day out, say in a recovery situation, I'd use a wire rope. For Landrover recovery at Pay 'n Play sites or laning when it's likely to be used irregularly I'd use Plasma.

IMHO, wire rope is used when you need to use it regularly and/or constantly, where it won't stay coiled and wet/muddy so won't rust, and where it's unlikely to snap 'cos there won't be the extra loads going through it that being stuck in mud can add.

Plasma is much more suited to irregular use, provided a few precautions are taken, such as covering it from the sun, making sure you dry it out, clean it, load it correctly and inspect it regularly (basically the same as for wire). Where it scores a lot for me has already been said, lack of whiplash when it does go, lightness and the knowledge that it isn't going to hurt someone when it does go allows me to use it in more situations off-road than wire.

'course, when wire was the only thing available it was different ...
 
the thing that puts me off plasma rope most is the idea of it being sliced through when winching. I've snapped a few wire ropes in my time but I have always known when they about to go before they've gone. If you want to use a wire rope over rock or over sharp metal edges you can. I carry a fair bit of timber on my truck to stop it cutting through the edge of my bed, motorway barriers etc. I wouldn't consider using a plasma rope until they are uv stable and even then I would probably not bother getting one.

you can also use the plasma rope over rock or metal by using the x zag
