Hi all, just bought a 200 disco and noticed that it seems to rev no higher than 2500rpm and isn't massively torquey upto that either.
Reckon it might be the turbo playing up or something, maybe it's siezed?
It was sitting on the last owners drive for about 2 months not moving really before I got it if that helps.
Any thoughts on the issue?

Cheers.

Fair enough, and that would be enough to restrict what it revs to then? I've just had a look and it may not be the turbo. Where abouts is the lift pump and fuel filter anyway? I'm new to discos incase you can't tell.

Change the air and fuel filters first. Then check all the hoses for splits or internal damage. Any smoke coming out of it?

Course it would, your accelerator pedal controls the amount of fuel the main injector pump delivers to the engine but the whole lot needs to be supplied with enough fuel in the first place.

Reeto then, I'll change the air and fuel filter tomorrow and report back. Is the lift pump a big job? Mr haynes says easy, dont think there's any splits, might not have looked hard enough and no, theres no extra smoke than there should be.
Wheres the sedimenter located anyway?
Could the fuel tank have rusted inside or is not steel?

Another quick question, how big is the fuel tank anyway?

The fuel tank is 81ltrs on the early 200's and 89ltrs on the later ones.

Your problem is very likely a gunged-up fuel sedimenter. Remove, clean and reinstall.

The lift pump is an easy and cheap job to do, should take 30mins tops.

STC1190 Fuel Lift Pump - 200TDI

Good luck

Dave
Ps TDi 200's are very good trucks and excellent on juice.

one comment on the sedimenter - its underneath by the fuel tank, so get a spare one cos there is a good chance it's never been off and when you start fiddling with it it'll more than likely shear off/fall apart or f*** up in some other equally annoying way:D:D

ah the joys of disc ownership

what, get something else, dont be bloody stupid :):)

Changed the fuel filter and cleaned out the sedimenter (which didn't break), but still no luck. Think I'll take it to a diesel specialist. Woo, lots of money. Woo.
I did also ask in my local landy garage/shop place and they reckon it ain't the lift pump. But I'm unsure. Hmm.

Theres an adjustment for the accelerator cable. A black nob that you twist by the lift pump. Check that it is properly adjusted. There should be just a small amount of slack.

Also check that your accelerator cable isn't really slack or caught up in something. A new cable should be cheap to buy and pretty easy to fit.

Checked the accelerator cable and it ain't that so I think I'll change the lift pump in a bit and hopefully it should all be dandy.

Let us know what it was please as my 300tdi is starting to play up.
It basically hesitates, then won't pull any more, but its at no real point, whenever it feels, in any gear.
I did have a split turbo hose a lil while ago, and i replaced it with a hose from a pipe specialist, but after i fitted it, either the turbo was spinning up or theres another hose thats split that i don't know about? As i get a whooshing of air, and i didn't think the turbos were particuarly noisy.??

Intake / exhaust manifold gasket?

Have you checked all your hoses?

Since I removed my intake manifold and gave it a dam good clean, mine has performed better.

After 13 years and 176'000 miles you wouldn't believe the amount of crud and crap in there.

I dunno if it made any difference but as oppose to the the £40 land rover genuine turbo hose i opted to get a £20 hose from a hose place. But it was a specific hose for the turbo. Just a hose that fit?
Someone on here posted about the hose collapsing???? Is that possible?

Changed my fuel pump and no real difference to be honest. It does seem to be a tiny wee bit better, but not much, it would only rev to 2600 to start with, then it started going to 2800ish then earlier today for about 10minutes it was revving to 3100 then dropped back to 2900.
I'm not sure if it has something to do with the last owner been an old person who never drove over 30 for 5 years. I get the feeling that theres just a wee blockage somewhere.
Hmm...

Take all the air inlet pipes off, including the air filter hoses, the inlet manifold and the intercooler and associated hoses and clean them all out. Check the egr valve (and ditch it!!) and clean that ... and check that the turbo hoses, in particular the 90 degree bends, haven't collapsed internally. The turbo hoses in particualr may have gone soft, a change to new ones, even standard, might do a lot of good.

Hows it going ? Have you cheked all your plumbing out yet ,hoses can look good from the outside but be completely knackered inside check em all including fuel lines feed and return .
Get yourself some injector cleaner and fill your fuel filter with it ,start up and see what happens !!
I did this on a mates renaukt that had the same symptoms and it did the trick .
Anyhow good luck and dont give up!
