Saw on a post on here about swapping autoboxes
Mines a 96 2.5 dte can i put in a 4.6 liter aotobox and if so what other parts do I need to swap over please.
I'm asking as mines done 138 thousand miles and to be honesst I'm not good with auto box technology.
If it can be done i was going to look for them at my leisure and store them for the future.
I'm a bit concerned as although my box works ok ,touch wood, I am finding that once warmed up the change from first to second is quite a jolt, fine when its coldd,in fact its smooth but once war,it does snatch quite badly and I have to feather the throttle so to speak.
I changed the oil,new filter etc and added one bottle of the Lucas additive but I've only done 300 miles in it yet so i doubt its had time to fully work yet.
What I dont waant to happen is for the box to fail on me and have to pay through the nose for another one when I'm desperate for one.
My Rangey works for her living so if its off the road i lose income and customers,so I need to be on her collar so to speak. Used to have a van but it wouldnt get where I wanted it to,ride was awful and in the end the insurance was just too expensive for the work i do i have to carry specialist expensive parts. Dont have to worry about it any more now as my faithful huskey cross lady dog (canine type) thouroughly enjoys occupying the front seat and makes the other work lads sit in the back! If they try to move her, they soon regret it,lol.

DATATEK's your man for this, he's planned for this in his diesel. Or, if you prefer you could talk to Ashcrofts who do various upgrades.
I think that it's only a length issue swapping the boxes, overcome by exchanging the bell housings.
You might want to consider upgrading the torque convertor at the same time.

As I put in a earlier post you need a 4.6 box with last 3 numbers on serial plate 065 not the 061 as its longer..) its just a case of using diesel bell housing and torque converter and that info is from dave ashcroft 3 days ago (ashcroft transmission) simples :)

Either the old or new versions of the HP24 box will fit, the length difference is accomodated with a different spacer that comes with the box.
You need to use the bell housing from your old box and depending on version you may need to swap the oil pump, easy job. Other than that, it's a straight swap.

The torque converter for the diesel is different to the petrol. 260mm dia as opposed to 280mm dia.

Also the ZF4HP24 unit from the 4.6 is a bit longer than the ZF4HP22 that's used in the diesel.

To accommodate this you need to use TC and the bell housing from your diesel box and mate it to your new ZF4HP24 4.6 box.

Apart from that I think it's a straight swap.

EDIT

Datatek is right, either the old or new ones will fit, the change between old and new was just in the length of the torque converter, and as you'll be using the TC and bell housing from your diesel it won't matter.

Correct

The HP22 has a spacer to make it the same length as the HP24.

To accommodate this you need to use TC and the bell housing from your diesel box and mate it to your new ZF4HP24 4.6 box.

Correct, but it has nothing to do with the length of the box.

Apart from that I think it's a straight swap.

There are different oil pumps on some versions of the HP24 so the pump has to be swapped to mate with the diesel torque convertor. Easy job.

Give Emmotts of colne a ring they did ours for £350 suppy and fitted. Saves on the hassle of humping a dead hippo from underneath the car unless you've got access to a fully equipped garage.
Hope this helps

Mind you ive been thinking about a car lift for some time so perhaps now I'm over the hill,50 that is,its time i looked at one.lol.
