hi everyone sorry i'm not on here much the problem with having 4 cars is you spread you time over many forums..

I'm normaly ok at finding an fixing issues with cars but this has me stumped:confused:

after several weeks of having electrical issues an going down the battery/ charging route discovered that it was the gearstick, now after a long wknd in the garage (with beer an a bbq) fixing several cars discovered that when the stick is in park in High if you gently push the stick fwd an to the left all the dash lights go really dim an an the climate control an cd player go off???? on the road this leads to many gearbox fault, gearbox over heat, select neutral, lh side light, speedo, revs, temp gauge all bounce around, climate control an cd player go on an off an some times cuts out... if i hold the gear stick to the right all problems go away????

please help as this has me completely stumped.. its not the switch for the low box selector nore is it the sensor on the box, its just the stick but there shouldnt be any power on the stick!!! should there????

cheers guys

Are you sure that it's the shifter? When you press it over are you moving the console around it. You've got the cigarette lighter just in front, frequently used as a convenient point from where to wire up accessories, and a fair bit of wiring running down the tunnel. I'd start stripping out bits from the centre console, one of the easier jobs on a Rangie, and see if you've got a cable trapped, partially cut through or a bare wire catching.

Take a look at the multi plugs to gearbox you may have a duff earth path.

thanks for the replys... the console is stripped as is the elec window console and the siggy lighter... everything is solid around the stick an no movement around an cant see any trapped wires!! all it is is when i nudge the stick up an to the left not even with much force???? its got me thrown...

oh yeah an i've been underneath an moved all connections an tapped all round the selector while the dash an elecs were monitored by mates in the cabin...
