Hi guys.....might sound like a bum asking this but i need some advice on buying a land rover. I am planning on driving by road from Glasgow, UK to Goa, India covering Europe and a lot of Asia. So most important is reliability and comfort. www.glasgow2goa.com

My budget to buy is around the 12000. I was advised by friends that i should choose Land Rover 2....GS and 2008 plate. Do you think that would be a wise decision or would there be any other
recommendation ? I do not want to have engine head blown off in the middle of nowhere.

I was looking to have the following before i leave :
Anti-puncher liquid from Halfords extra tire besides spare, a good jack, oil pump change, extra head light bulbs, spare fuel can, full owners manual n documents + repair instructions.

Any other recommendations ?

Hmmn, I guess by Land Rover 2, you mean a freelander 2 ? Not sure that is the best vehicle to be planning this kind of trip. No more or less reliable than any other, but a very complicated (electronic) beast, certainly wouldn't have thought an oil pump change was feasible.

little intrigued by your exact spec.

good luck with your quest, if I was considering that journey, I'd be looking at a discovery (mainly for comfort) or a defender.

12k would buy you a good discovery 2, with some money left to kit it out.

keep us posted.

Thanks for the reply Optimus. By Land rover 2 i did meant "land rover discovery 2" indeed and with oil pump change i meant "oil pump bolt check" (spelling mistake). You were spot on with you advise in terms of my thought process. I would like to know if there are any negatives and things i should know before i buy ?
