Hi,I need advice!

I recently bought my 1st Landy a 1990 LR 90 with a 200tdi engine

I've noticed a quite loud clunk, after changing gear and taking up the drive, also when lifting off the accelerator, then re-applying the power
It seems to be coming from behind me

I can stop it happening by being very gentle with the foot pedals , but I think it must need fixing
someone more knowledgable than me looked at it and reckons its not the propshaft

Is the gearbox buggered???

check ujs ,A frame ball joint top middle of rear axle ,and if you remove pto cover from rear of transfer box you can check condition of gear box mainshaft splines and input gear splines

Can be lots of things - half shaft/drive flanges worn, diff, prop UJs, rear A-frame ball joint and mainshaft wear are most common.

Quite loud coming from the back I'd say likely to be A-frame ball joint or diff, assuming the person who looked at it was correct about the UJs being OK. Could be mainshaft although that tends to sound more around the gearbox area, I would not rule it out though as mine is of the same age and just had a new gearbox due to shaft wear.

Edit: James beat me  :p

Thanks for the replies!
I know bugger all about landy's, didn't realise it had a PTO! wow!

I don't know what A frame ball joint is or how to check it??

thanks for patience with a novice, I only know about working on old Jap bikes...

it hasnt got a pto unless you remove the cover and fit one ,ball joint on middle top of axle, lever up with a bar ,it shouldnt
