help please, we have r reg discovery 300.its just started making a clicking sound from the offside front wheel, more so when going backwards. could this be driveshaft joint.thanks.Dave

Check the wheelbearings (plenty of threads on how to do this) if they are ok then Possibly CV Joint.

Does it stop when you apply the brakes? - could be loose pads/retainers

As RH says CV joint ... pull the driveshaft take it round the bock see if the noise has gone ... don't leave a dodgy CV joint, they 'let go' quickly ...

you cant just "pull a drive shaft " on the front requires stub axle removing ,cv would be worse in lock ,but does sound like pad retainers is a good start

Well, as he didn't say if it was a 200TDi D1 or a D4 ... the drive shaft thing is bye the bye ...

he hasn't said if it's worse on lock-to-lock -

Wheel and hub off, then remove the stub axle and the CV joint/driveshaft will pull out of the axle tube.

The CV is held in place on the driveshaft by a C-clip.
Usually a sharp sma k with a hammer will separate the two, but not always.

The new CV will just pop on and then reassemble...

and don't we all wish they went as easy as it is written ...
