The driver's exterior door handle has always been rather notchy (I've had the car 3 weeks) and has required pushing back, otherwise it remains sticking out 1/4 inch after the door is shut. Today the door wouldn't open! I found that it would open very easily if the door was pushed in as I pulled the handle, however. I decided to try some lubrication, spraying WD40 in wherever I could. Noticing that there was a screw on the inside of the rear of the door I undid it and removed it, whereupon something fell to the bottom of the door noisily. 'That's torn it' I thought. I sprayed some more WD40 in behind the handle and then replaced the screw, which tightened up nicely. To my surprise, the handle and central locking still work and the handle is improved. What dropped? Does it matter?

Have you tried the key in it. The small rods are prone to falling off.

I suggest remove the door card and take a peak:).

I now know that, as I suspected, there is a heavy spacer between the inner and outer skins of the door, where the screw goes through and it is that which has fallen. I'll have to take the door card off to retrieve it. When the weather is better! The door now functions fine, although the handle still needs pushing back the last bit.

My drivers door handle has stuck out 5-10mm for the last 7 years and it has never really bothered me. When I get out and lock it up I just give it a push. I just accept it. I did look at Brians post and though Hmm maybe but islands doesn't have a picture of the part so I have no idea what I am looking at and the last thing I ordered from them they refused to post due to "air mail issues" and from here without a vpn due to the sanctions you cant even look on the bay of e.

I've done the pull-slap(it back) method for so long now I don't even think about it. It grates when I see it sitting proud after someone else has opened the door though.

You see so many like that I thought it was the design I’ve your car didn’t have that little feature it would stand out
