new to the group and grateful for any help. Have read all the related threads re the above and have the following problem that is doing my head in....

96 defender 90 300tdi
upgraded to led indicators (wipac)
rear ones work fine
side repeaters work fine
but front two will not work
have installed the new adjustable flasher relay (purchased from jgs)
have installed the new dash tell tale with earth (rdx)
have tested the earth on the indicator front connectors which is good and while testing found a flashing 12v live
put the old non led fitting back on and they work !
tested the new led one whilst disconnected from car with a power probe and it works....but not when back on the car ?
have stripped and cleaned the multi plug on the hazard switch and tested all ok

running out of ideas....any suggestions gratefully received

Why would you put LED indicators on an old Land Rover.
It’s like putting a DAB radio in a steam roller....don’t bother.
Keep it simple, that’s the beauty of these vehicles, no electronics and no technology.

Adding modern tat is more trouble than it’s worth. If you want LED lights buy a Discovery Sport.

Just my opinion of course, l doubt many will agree.

Because they are brighter, more clear and more reliable than the utter crud from factory.

Ive replaced one in 6 years of having then and thats because I hit a wall. Where as before I was changing bulbs constantly and holders at least twice a year.

Dont you drive two TD5s? Full of electronics? Isnt one an XS? With even more electronics....

@devender99

As for the OP. LEDs are polarity sensitive, swap the wires on your landy round, should work.

Try swapping the pos and neg over at the led feed ... they only work one way ...

As above sometimes the LEDs have the red and black leads incorrectly fitted at factory
Also the old connector blocks might be shot if doing a plug and play installation, the contacts open up and get tarnished & the tabs on the LEDs might be a bit thinner

Well remembered! l’ve got a TD5 110 SW and my missus drives a TD5 90 XS. I realise that these vehicles have an ECU.

l prefer the ordinary lamps because they still work if they get wet, and are easy and cheap to repair if they do fail. Such as on a road trip in the middle of nowhere where l was able to replace a bulb.
If an LED lamp fails (and they do) you are stuffed unless you’ve got spare units.
I’ve never had an OE lamp unit fail although there’s obviously been bulb replacement every so often.

But it’s only my opinion! Many people like to “improve” their vehicle and that’s the beauty of Defenders, they are easy to personalise.
LED headlamps are certainly a lot brighter l can’t deny that.

I know you have said you have checked the earth but if you can just plug the positive going to the led light and take the negative straight to ground.

if that doesn’t work you now it’s something with the feed not the earth side.

also confirm it the other way plug the negative in and take the positive straight to the battery.

I've found led indicators are superior in every way - fully sealed, brighter, lower power consumption and they look very similar to the originals.

Just hope one doesn’t fail when you are on holiday somewhere.

Spain, Andora, France, Pyrenees Wales, all over the UK. Through bonnet depth mud and water to sand and mountain tracks. 70,000 miles later and 6 years. Never had one fail, until I reversed into the forklift at work. Cracked the lens but still worked and still flashed brighter organge than standard.

Original? Both rears failed when it had a splash in Salisbury.

And IF one does go you can still find a standard one to replace it with in the mean time. They are not cruical parts.

If you are that worried take a spare for £10, you wont need it though.

Each to their own, l think l will leave mine standard, if it’s good enough for the Army

l can fully understand why people want to fit these lights though.

Because the army really use indicators :p

Just dont see why youre so against leds but have central locking, heated screen and leccy windows
