Hi
I have a 1999 Range Rover 4.6 V8 HSE.
When I go down a steep hill I put the Auto Gearbox in Low Range and Down hill assist but it does not slow down the car?

P38's didn't have a hill descent control option....

As above, in Low Box, pressing the Sports Mode button puts the box into a manual mode and locks the box in the gear number selected for engine breaking.

According to Land rover hand book, steep hill decent with an automatic is carried out in low box first gear. No mention of pressing any buttons that i can see. I may of course be going blind. :D:D

Must admit my impression was that when in low range the autobox was locked in whatever gear you had it in. While since I've driven one. I remember a sport button. Cannot remember a second button but there was on my Omega for slippery starts in snow.

Its not downhill assist, even though they use a pic of a car going down a steep hill, like the one they do use for downhill assist, in a P38 its just a pic to tell you to use this gear for going down steep hills,
