Ok quite new to this landy lark and I have a series 3 2.25 petrol but the doors are rotten as hell. Just done a 1/4 chassis for mot but doors werent mentioned, just as well.

My question is can you put defender doors with wind down windows onto a series 3, quite fancy the full glass effect rather than sliding glass??

That's fairly easy - if you can find a pair of doors at a reasonable price.
You might need to play around with the catch / keeper but it's been done many many times.
 
am in the process of doing this at the minute, the doors fit no prob but they have a different set up with the lock and striker. you need to get the striker plates off the defender as well and then pack them out to meet ;)
 
S'funny, me old III had Defender doors on it & initially I wuz going to fit them to this one too. Having driven it a bit with proper series doors I think I'm going to stick with them.

Quite like the simplicity of them & there's less then the usual amount of tin worm on the bottom rails. Also with no door card & stuff to keep the moisture in plus no window 'slot' for rain to run down into I reckon they'll last a lot longer too.

Not some travesty changing them, but I reckon I'll keep the originals.............for a while at least.
 
i think it's down to personel taste i'm putting series doors on me 90 , i just think they look better , plus you can take the tops off when it's good weather . and yes the striker plates are different , as is the "thingy" that stops them opening to far .
 
Don't often hear them being fitted the t'other way so to speak.

Good point about the door limiter thingies. They always seem to be damaged on the defender doors I've seen. Much simpler, stronger looking set up on the Series ones. But yeah, it is personal taste.

Think I'm on a bit of a simplification mission at the mo'!

i'm thinking of using some kind of strap for the door limiter , i'm sure they used them on very early ones , like yer said keep it simple !!
 
An old seat belt isn't a bad idea. Cut to length, doubled up with bolts & large washers on through it. Replaced the one on the rear door of my 90, it made quite a tidy job of it.

never thought of that ,i just need to make sure the frame won't buckle , i think thats wot i'll do , good idea !!!
 
Thanks all, Still not made up my mind what to do but im fed up with getting a wet seat and the door top nearly blowing off as soon as you get above 50
 
Is the wet seat down to the doors, windows or the seals though & if the door top's bolted on properly it shouldn't be in danger of coming off? :confused:
 
if the wet seat is fdue to the door frame then its the seal around it thats causing it. you can buy the seal by the metre and its a piece of **** to fit ;)

The doors were already changed on mine before i got it

trewey - do yu mean proper or bodge? nevva thort yu cud have both;)

aint that wot its abart with these - yu use wot yu can find in the shed?
 
"proper bodge" means the opposite of "proper job".
normally I charge for Cornish translation, but seein it's you, this one's free.
