I have come to the conclusion that I will have to replace my door pillars.

With the standard replacement pillars do they end up being the external metal finish that can be painted, or are they installed behind a metal skin?

Most of the pillar is external but at the top bulkhead repair piece covers it doubling thr metal at hinge point.
