Hi,

Ordered some "series" mirrors from paddocks last week, just got them and they dont fit my Series 3, the bolts are to close togethoer on the hinges.

When ordered from paddocks they were sold as "Door Mirror Complete Assembly--SERIES" but they dont fit mine at all, and on closer inspection of Defender hinges, they seem to have sent defender mirrors.

The paddocks photo is that same for all of them, so are the mirrors all the same (and i have to change hinges), or is there another type for series 3?

Or have they just sent the wrong thing?

Thanks

I assume you mean the defender style mirror, when fitting these to a series you need to fit defender top hinges. I bought a series mirror kit from paddock and the mirrors and hinges were in a bundle together. Hope this helps. If you mean the series style mirrors with the oval heads I cannot really help.

HI,

OK,

How do i change the top door hinges, as from looking at the car, the back of the hinge bolts that go into the bulkhead, are going to be impossible to get too, without cutting a big hole in the bulkhead :)

How are the hinges meant to be changed?

Thanks,

Biosbill

the nuts for the hinges are captive nuts and they are held in place by a small metal frame when you take the bolts out the nuts will remain in place. Unless they snap, then you're in the ****.

Any ideas if im in the ****?

Do i have to take the bulkhead out?>

If a nut rips out then the only solution I know of is to drill a 20mm hole opposite the hinge bolt put a nut in a socket and feed it thru the hole, then tighten bolt up. then weld a small patch over the hole you drilled. Or if they all rip out then a bigger hole will have to be cut and welded back up afterwards.

Someone else may well know of an easier way but I haven't heard of one.

Just spray it up with WD40 or similar for a few days in advance, I used the biggest phillips screwdriver I have with a spanner on the end for extra persuasion. Mine came out easy enough, and because the bottom hinge is still attatched you should not have any problem with alignment. You can get new bolts and captive nuts for pence so its worth getting some new ones. Good Luck....

****!!! I just bought the very same for our 72 s3. havent had a look at putting them on but will have a gander in the morning:(

On No!!

If you change the hinges as above, pls post about how it went, im a bit worried about having to hack a hole in my bulkhead if the nuts drop out!

Although, (ill post pictures later) ive managed to make up a metal plate, to adapt the Series brackets to take Defender mirrors, its a bit fiddly to do up the bolts, but it works! and you dont have to remove the hinge!

Will post photos soon,

I reckon paddocks are taking the **** really. They are advertised as mirrors for s3 and the picture shows the "defender" style mirror, but theres no mention of needing to replace the top hinge or any mods needed. I may have given it a second thought then.

Well I take back any derogatory statement that I made about paddocks, my mirrors where a straight swap and a bit of cake to put on....On reflection I think I was a bit hasty and looking back now everythings crystal clear.....

Yep, me too. I bought some Defender mirrors not long after getting Heidi (cos the original mirrors only had 2 settings: sky or ground) expecting to have to make-up some sort of bodge, er... I mean special bracket - but they just went straight on. As far as I can tell the hinges are the original ones - they look just like every other bugger's.
