Do'er of stuff and the like
Dont tell no one right...

but ive secretly joined your club.

Picked up our new little ga.. I mean freelander! last night. Dont tell our defender though, he might get upset about it. so i have parked the little ga....freelander!!! (FFS) around the corner so he cannot see it.

Its got ALLLLLL the problems normally mentioned :-

window cable snapped, vcu is fooked (will remove this weekend), oil residue in coolant expansion bottle, heater going hot & cold and temp guage moving around more than louis spence.

bbuuutttt...

it actually drives alright to be fair to it! Will be dropping in lots of the hotter bits off our mgtf as we are breaking that for spares (no point in selling it as a whole car!) And will sort most of the issues out this weekend hopefully.

Had to get another car for the mrs urgently after our shogun sport decided to lunch itself on sunday night.

So there we are... ive finally given up all hope of self respect and bought a freelander! :)

FFS dont tell the whole world! Ive already paint the windows black so no one can see me like.

Oh ducky you've finally defected, how very dare you :D!

Well done mate, hope you didn't pay much ;). What's the year and injun :)?

Not defected!!!! being a double agent...

k series - 1999

Proper cheap ;)

Drives well to be fair apart from it feels like its going to lock the wheels up when you put it on full lock! VCU must be utterly knackered! Will get rid tomorrow.

Do all the upgrades and it'll be sweet mate. You going to do the work yourself?

yeah. Its like having a workshop under the bonnet compared to working on the mgtf! I can get my arm in and everything!!!!!

Ordered a window repair kit straight away. Will sort out the vcu this weekend and put it into 2wd for the time being. I want to have a look at rebuilding the VCU.

Mrs was bemoaning the leather seats, so need to install heater panels in them i think.

Oh need to sort a replacement passenger mirror as the outer casing is missing for some reason.

I reckon a damper or 2 has gone as well.. it just seems far to bouncy.

Think ill chuck the cams in from my 135 engine which should give it a welcome boost. Any idea what the valve sizes are on the 1.8 mpi on the freelander? Is it the smaller valve head which was also fitted to the mgzr 1.4 etc? If so i could see about swapping the whole head over. The bottom end of my tf engine is scrap so have lots to rob off it!

if they are vvc cams they won't fit.

any help needed give me a shout.

been there seen it done it (same year same engine ;))

nah its a normal solid 135 engine. None of this fancy la de da vvc lark.

It lunched itself and locked up solid in the outside lane of the m1 at rush hour. Really loved it that day... head is ok though thankfully.

it'll fit then ;)

watch out for the extra power through the drivetrain

Would be inetersting to see the difference it makes :). Drivetrain should be ok if it's in good nick and you don't drive like a muppet.

Took this pic on the M3, from the left: JamesMartin, BoB and Fanny :D:p:D.

drivetrain is half shagged so i imagine it will break pretty quickly.
That and my mrs seems to believe the clutch doesnt need to be fed in gently and if she just slips her foot off it.. the jolt is perfectly acceptable. And if i think otherwise i am wrong!!!

With some other mods i think it will make a fun likkle motor. I reckon the kids are going to enjoy going out this weekend with the roof off! :)

Then again so will i :D

Another good point with owning a freelander is you won't be spending all your time welding up your chassis like to disco boys do. LOL :behindsofa:
