Interesting. So glad our Freelanders are a little simpler in design (and much lower in value!)
I was talking to someone just the other day about this, and the issues that keyless entry/starting are causing.

I’ll shut up about £38 / month being expensive.

Hi Freddie.
The main problem is that all insurance companies have labelled all Land rovers the same when it comes to insurance, we all know the earlier FL2 need a fob to be inserted into the docking station before it will start, even the later ones are not that easy to get into even though no docking station.

It's Range Rover brand that is doing it, but insurers will always jump on the band waggon anything to put up the prices, add that to the 50% that insurance has risen anyway and you have a recipe for price to fall fast and really low, so purchasing an already 10yr old FL2 is not good economics right now, some sellers are still asking £11,000 to £15,000 for a second hand FL2.

You can get a good Volvo or MG SUV for that kind of money.

I doubt any insurance company would want to pay you £11,000 or more for your 10yr old car in it was stolen or damaged in an accident they are ripping us off, and we al know it.

Yes, I agree on the asking prices for some of the younger models… some people are in cloud-cuckoo land !

It's not just Range Rovers, the problem exists across lots of brands. That £1m would be better spent sorting the vehicle security.

I think you are right - solve the issue, which will reduce the thefts, rather than trying to nab the thief. Stable doors and bolting horses…

Insurance aside, I keep all our car keys inside a faraday box at home.

Thankfully, we have not suffered silly price hikes, but I do feel for people that have managed to get their much-sought-after pride and joy (whatever marque it might be) and owned it happily for a few years, only to be then priced out of the ownership by insurance increases of 50% or more.

When I insured my Project P38 last year, it took a long discussion with the broker & he called the underwriters. Eventually they agreed that P38's are not at risk like later models. Insurance price more than halved to around £300 :)
