Hi ya gang

Right my new to me 2001 TD5 with 128k on the clock came with a pretty complete service history and handbook:D
It shows the last service being done 7000 miles ago and as I didn't get it done I'd like to start fresh and do everything:(

I've sort of ordered all filters etc from Famous Four [their premium kit], but not confirmed yet;)

I've got to buy all the oils which I know are gonna cost me an arm and a leg so after some advice, I have done a search on here and found posts for all different landy models, different mileages, different opinions etc, so because of this I'd thought I'd ask for myself:p

Right engine oil, hand book say's 5w/30 5w/40 5w/50, oil to meet ACEA A1.98 & B1.98
What's all that mean? I thought I was getting 5w/30 fully synthetic as mentioned before in previous posts:confused:

Gearbox. Texaco MTF94 who sells that?

Transfer box. Texaco Multigear 75w 90R

Diff's [final drives] Molytex 90w EP

I haven't heard of half this stuff, if I walk into Halfords will they have it all?

Sorry to be a pain but I want to start right with this motor and have convinced myself it needs doing, would like to do the lot in one go if poss [it'll be the only time it gets it all done in one go].

Help/advice appreciated as always.

Brian

try stc9158 for mtf94 ,though famous four sell it ,t/box and diffs will both take the same oil ep90 or equivalents 80w/90 75w/90 etc gl4, motor factors will sell fleet oil thst more than good enough, and change all oils regularly a good few vehicles dont seem to get that , again semi synthetic 10w40 or 5w/30 fleet oil is more than adequate

Hi ya James, glad to see I'm not the only one from round here on here

The hand book seemed to tell me I could use anything from 5w/30 - 5w/50 for engine and I hadn't heard of a lot of the other stuff.
Now ep90 is just normal gear oil;) cheaper as well being able to buy one oil for both.
I kept hearing [on another site:eek:] eveyone only using fully synthetic engine oil and again no mention of this in the handbook, all this gobbledy gook makes a simple task a headache!

Cheers mate

Don't buy anything from Halfords, staff are retards, and you pay way more than from a local motor factors. Plus the staff at your local store might not be completely retarded.

semi synthetic is more than suitable, from a lot of experience i can say changing regularly is more important rather than very expensive oil less regularly,ep90 is and was suitable up till now on lrs and still is though i often find it easier to get 80w/90

Guess I shouldn't be posting that list on here but I've not mentioned no names so guess can't offend/upset anyone.
I heard Asda are doing 5w/30 £20 for 5 litres;)

ASDA 5W30 Fully Synthetic Oil - 5L | Car Maintenance | ASDA direct

9.0l EP90 £23.50 Tfer box & diffs
4.5l ATF £10.85 g'box
10.0l 15/50 £22.00 engine
Total £56.35

Mine's going to be due for an oil change before too long and I've been looking for some reasonably priced 5w30. As well as Asda I see Euro Car Parts (if there's one near you) has Shell Helix at under £20 for 5 litres.

Look for a local motor factors - there are plenty around - and get your oils in 4.5 or 5.0 litre containers or bigger if you have somewhere to store them.

NEVER buy it by the litre, as it is then priced uo accordingly, and let's face it ... you have a Landy and will use up however much you buy :D:D:D

apart from your local motor factors. get yourself on the herocarparts website/email site.
they`re always doing deals on oil. i generally pay £12.50 for 5l of engine oil. £20 for 5l gear oil. these are either semi or fully synth depending on deal at the time. as jm says. more important to change regularly than the type.

Euro Car Parts have got some special offers on. I've just ordered two 5l cans of 5w30 for £13.99 each. If your engine would be happy with 10w40 that's even cheaper.

geeze, nearly fell over when I read that :O

Old sea dogs is near enough what I pay for mine. my engine oil is slightly more, but the EP90 is cheaper.
is yer fender a 90 or a 110? if the former, IIRC you'll be ok with a 5L of EP90, if a 100 youll need more cos the rear diff is bigger.

Thanks for the tip;) I will check to see if there's one local but to be honest, where I live nothing's local:( [actually I love it:D]

Cheers
Brian

Spotted in Halfords this morning, Castrol or some other well known brand 5w/30 had 20% [or 30%, I'm friggin useless:eek:] off and was £23.99 for 5L

Oils is oils is oils!

So don't bother with the 'named brands', as the others are just as good ... as long as you change them at least once a year - more if you are laning or mud plugging ;)

Get yourself a Halfrauds Trade Card anorl as you gets money off stuff

Thanks guy's

Asda's is the cheapest I can find [haven't got a costco], smith and allen by the time you've added the vat and postage were still pipped by asda's;)

Will venture out into the world of the supermarket tomorrow, won't tell the wife as it'll end up costing me a fortune:rolleyes:
