Hi,

I'm going on tour soon and will be taking the back seats out of my 5 door td4.

However, I need to keep my dog guard in my car,

1: keep the dog in the boot
2: lash some things to it (like fridge, extra fuel, etc) so they don't go rolling around whilst driving.

Has anyone got any ideas on how to secure the dog guard onto the seat bracket things without using the seats?

can't help with the dog-guard bit ( as i've a commercial hippo )
but .. to keep my pooch secure in the back
i lash a strap across 2 floor securing loops .. and to that i tie a dog-lead ..
which connects to her harness ..
long enough so she can move around a bit ..
short enough that in case of emergency stop / or worse .. she won't hit the sides or roof .. have incorporated a bungie-cord as well .. for a bit of easy de-acceleration

( be also plenty of foam rubber mattress material on the floor )

btw: have found that a cloth ( old t-shirt ) .. soaked in water ..
then cooled in the refrigerator / car cooler-ice-box ..
works well as a cooling jacket for pooch in this heat should i need to leave her in the car for a short while ( usually only 10-15 minutes ) ..
sunroof and tailgate window fully open .. car in shade ..
( i've a metal grill on the tailgate window 'n also a d.i.y'd sun shade on it )

I was thinking of using a bungie cord to go from 1 seat bracket to the other, but i think it might be a bit flimsy.

I have found these little clamps Small - Large WIRE ROPE CLAMPS/GRIPS 3,5,6,8,10,12mm ?HEAVY DUTY? Cord Cable | eBay ... hopefully they'll do the trick.

Thanks for the advice about the wet t-shirt / cloth, that's a really awesome idea!

at last some one with a bit of sense putting a dog into a harness which is secured . also attaching a dog to a bungee cord is just asking for trouble if you hit any thing I can see it now keep hitting you on the back of the head LOL dogs or any animals in the back of the car can kill you if they are not restrained properly at thirty miles an hour it could break you neck if it hit you at the back of your head.

here's a pic of her with her 'cooling-jacket' on ..
enjoying some cold mango lassi drink

the ( strong ) load-strap is across the floor ..
more or less between the red and white materials
a dog lead is attached to that ..
then feeds and loops over 2 bungee cords that go between 2 securing points
roughly where the top of the pic is ..

i've also got another dog lead attached to the tailgate window grid ..
that can be used as well ..
except if she jumps out with that one attached it puts her by the car
but .. on the traffic side ..
also if she wears both leads .. she can get a bit tangled up ..
making it a 'job' to get both leads off ..
( i use an 8mtr flexi lead to walk her .. she's 16 kilo )

there's a metal 'loadspace' grill between the back-space and the 2 seats in the front ..

NOT the feezer ..
tried both today and the bit i put in the freezer remained a solid-frozen lump
that .. i couldn't untangle

Some type of wedge, metal would be best, should hold it in place at the top.
Do you have the fittings that secure the guard to the floor?

My dog rarely goes on a seat in the car, she's usually in the boot, but when she is on a seat she gets harnessed in, unless we're doing some green laning then she usually sits on the OH knee
