Ignition on and handbrake on, no warning light. Turn the key to starter motor position, no starter motor but the handbrake light comes on!!

I have been buggering about with the wiring as I've been fitting a new chassis loom recently.

Cheers,
Paddy

You need to sort that out, coz I don't think that's supposed to happen! ;)

Sounds as though you've wired the starter solenoid wire to the hand brake light!

Did you match existing colours to the new loom colours ... and label them ... when you changed the loom?

As far as I can see at present it's all correct and everything else works as it should. I couldn't even see the handbrake wore lol

Once I pull the motor out (doing a 200Tdi conv) I'll get a better look then.

Cheers,
Paddy

If memory serves, the starter solenoid wire is a thin white wire with a red tracer.

You're good lol

Just had a look at my wiring diagram and you are correct.

I'll take a better look once I get up tomorrow afternoon as I'm on night shift ATM.

Cheers

im sure i read on a thread about things earthing through the handbrake cable if your earth strap is wrong or something like that  maybe no help but might be worth a search

I don't think I will ever forget it - it's really hard to connect on a disco 200 tdi conversion especially when you have hands like shovels. The best advice is to connect the loom whilst the engine is out which I ignored as I did not know that the loom simply unplugs!

My disco used to have a buggered spade on the starter that used to fall of at random times and trying to squeeze my big paws past a red hot turbo was never fun!!! I must remember to replace that terminal during the swap lol
