When autobox changes it judders (lurches you forward then jerks you back in your seat) badly when it selects the next gear. Its worst in 1st and when it changes into 2nd and isnt as bad the higher the gear you are in. I checkd the engine mounts and 2 at least have pretty much had it (bottom mounts) especially with the movement i saw, but just wondered could it be related? would it affect the way it changes gear??:fighting2:

Obviously worn mounts will affect AT gear changes but it can also be degraded ATF or a problem with the valves in the box (no expert on AT's).

If you've done considerable miles and you're not aware of the AT fluid ever being changed then it's always worth while sticking some new in there (sump dump, measure, replace) or you could do a complete flush. I also have an XC90 and I'm about to perform a full flush to cure (hopefully) a harsh up-change to 4th when hot.

Obviously check the mounts but I'd also change the fluid if it hasn't been done.

Edit
Just a thought has anyone used the "gibbons method" of flushing the Jatco AT on the Freelander?

Interesting way to flust the auto. I've always wondered if this sort of option was possible. We follow the instructions as below, which only changes 42% approx. Would be good to have a full auto oil change using the same gibbons method. Our Jatco's are the JF506E type and don't have a dipstick. We have to warm our up with engine running an then check the level, at a certain temp with the engine running.

The 6 speed box in my XC also doesn't have a dipstick but it does have a proper fill point. Same method applies, final fill when warm until you get a "show" from the level plug.

Now don't get me started on which ATF to choose :)
