does anyone still use cb radios theese days?
is it worth getting one?
if i did get one what are the simplist ones around dont want anything flash, dont want to get one tho if no one else uses them

Despite the technology, everyone on the outings days still seems to chat via the CB!

Plus you get an ariel, which makes it look like you mean buisness. All the kwl kids got them, just like those £150 snorkels you get from landrover.

We have these wonderful things called mobile phones these days...

Yep really useful when your last in line and not sure if the gate you've just come through was open or closed when the 1st driver arrived at the gate. Still it doesn't take long to phone the lead driver (You did get his mobile number didn't you???) and ask them. Assuming there's mobile phone coverage. If in a remote location, and so many lanes seem to be these days, Then coverage might be a bit thin:( Much easier than just having to key the CB mic and ask directly.:D :D Or if you get stuck, with a CB the rest of the group can be told before they've gone too far to be able to reverse up and rescue you.:p

I have CB. A team Transcom 8000, and I have a 2mtr Amateur radio set (saving up for a Yaesu ft7800, dual band 2m/70cm unit.

PMR radios are very useful but as you say have a limited range By law they are limited to 1/2 a watt power output. and operate on a frequency of. 446Mhz as opposed to Cb's which operate on 27Mhz and have a legal limit of 4watts. ham radios can operate across many different frequencies the most common been 2mtr @ 144 to 146Mhz and 70cm @ 433-434Mhz

I reckon they're worth it if your laning an' stuff. The banter adds to the day & like Pikey said, they're good for problems like gate open/gate closed or Daft - Tyre inflated/tyre flat.

Even if there were loads of people with them, I wun't use it ter speak to random people. Did misguidedly the other week & the guy wuz a dick!

i aint never heard anybody but daft truckers on mine ..... not like the old am days ... full of people then ..

Just been out to Goole had the 2m VHF radio on. I was chatting to some one in Wakefield (25miles away) Dunswell (20miles away.) On my way back to Hull I was listening to a guy from Newcastle talking to someone in Pontefract managed to raise the guy in pontefract (40 miles away) but not the one in Newcastle.
