So I am pretty confident that the new battery has sorted the going flat issue as it starts every time.
When I started looking into the flat battery I disconnected the RF receiver for the remote unlocking and have been locking with the key which is OK most of the time but a bit of a pain when I have two dogs pulling me in different directions.
Mine had the mk2 reciever with the aerial disconnected so worked when close to the vehicle. Question is do I now reconnect it or leave well alone?

I have MK2 receivers and normally have no problem except in on particular multi story car park littered with mobile phone and other aerials where the FOB will not work. There is a mod using a separate receiver and FOB that isolates the P38 receiver until the second FB turns it on. Marty also does a filter that fixes any problems.

I'd leave it otherwise you can bet it will bite at the worst time. Better still use Brian's 2 fob trick for a cheap fix or Marty's filter for a more professional finish.
 
I have Mk2 and Marty's filter (c.£80) and it works really well, I can recommend it over the cheap £10 jog unit that means carrying another fob and you never being quite sure whether your RF receiver is powered or not?
 
Or of course buy the mk3 receiver
This is what I did about five years ago before Marty designed the RF filters. I moved house from a remote location into a town where I had to park on the street & obviously there was much more WiFi 'chatter'. It took me a few weeks to diagnose the problem & I needlessly replaced the battery but I became an expert at using the EKA after recharging the battery. I tried disconnecting the receiver but found it too inconvenient. I tried an alleged Mk 3 receiver from eBay that didn't fix the problem so eventually paid £250 for brand new receiver & haven't had a problem since. I have once or twice had a flat battery since but only when I left the lights on & easily sorted with the lithium battery pack that I bought when my battery kept mysteriously getting flat (so much easier than lugging the spar Range Rover battery out to the car).
 
Turn off the eka and immob and leave it disconnected. Do you really need to lock/unlock from a distance? If i stand by the B pillar it usually works just fine. For some reason it helps if the key is opened rather than curled away
 
Before I bought Marty's filter, I had the receiver connected to BECM, but with antenna disconnected for several years. That stopped mine waking up & draining the battery. Still used the FOB near the window regularly plus it avoids key-switch wear & tear.
 
Leave it disconnected and hold the remote next to your head, works every time from a distance
Especially if you've got your own built in ariel
