Another stupid question about my new Defender. So I bought a 2001 Station Wagon that had been converted into a Utility. I'm in the process of converting it back somewhat. There was a partition installed behind the rear seats where I thought the bulkhead would be but when I removed it there didn't appear to be one there. I was on the understanding that the bulkhead was required for structural strength, and if removed then some kind of extra support was needed (like this: https://www.paddockspares.com/da2351-bulkhead-reduction-bar-kit.html).

This is the partition before I removed it:

And after:
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AlEsaKTGzfjagdhr__XkhL68KIUUBA?e=cngFTW

There's a big steel bar that was installed as part of the partition. Was this used to brace the bulkhead? Do I need to keep this? It doesn't look like anything has been cut away and looking online at pictures of other Station Wagons it doesn't look like they have the bulkhead piece either. I'm getting mixed up somewhere but I just don't know where. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

has rear tub been swapped,to van back rather than the 4 door body

I don’t know the difference between them but I suspect not, I thought they were basically the same tub but the SW had windows in the upper body. How would I tell? I assume the partition is homemade.

So looking around the Internet I see that this appears to be normal on a Station Wagon. Looking around mine it looks as though the bulkhead might be behind the front seats and already have one of those reducing/reinforcing bars on it. Can anyone confirm this is how they’re done so I can drive mine again?

if its a 90 it is the same tub all have a bulkhead behind the seat or a strengthening bar if that is removed which it would need, strengthening bar was never a lr choice
if its a 110 they are different bodies van type has bulkhead like a 90, station wagon has no bulkhead due to second row of seats and doors but it has steel box side frames which include sill and door pillars

Thanks, that’s exactly what I wanted to hear. That steel bar I removed just became my cheater bar.

It’s a 110 Station Wagon.
in which case it should have the side frames and second set of doors so has the support in the frames and doesnt need a strengthening bar, unless rear tub etc been replaced for no door van type were you will need bulkhead or bar
