Hi guys

Do early td5 defender's have a mas flywheel assy its just that I have been looking on the paddock's site and it just shows a normal type clutch arrangement but stated for a td5 defender

yes they do , but the clutch is normal ,just doesnt have damper springs

Are right I see I am just asking a few questions before I decide wether to buy a td5 defender or go for a 300tdi defender.

can you convert to a solid flywheel and normal clutch assy as I know the mas flywheel assy can be expensive to have done, or is this not true :)

fly wheel costs about £275, you could convert it but i wouldnt ,they usually last over 100k so its not as if your fitting one regulary

Hi Cornish,

I have just had to replace the DMF on mine which is a 2001 as part of a rebuild. At first I was being quoted silly prices around £400+ but managed to source one for £216+VAT which wasn't too bad. There is a company called Rakeway Engineering that make a solid mass flywheel conversion and can tailor a complete clutch package to suit exactly what you are using the vehicle for. They are not cheap though £600ish from recollection. I went through all this when sourcing mine there are arguments for and against both types (just search the forums).

Hope this is of some help :)

my wife killed the dmf in out car a rover 75:(:(:(:( twas not cheap 690 to sort it on top of the 250 the clutch fitted 3 weeks before cost and went faulty ,she was riding the cluth daft mare
