Don't have a Land Rover yet, however looking at possibly purchasing one if it will meet my needs, the Rover I am looking at is a 95,3.9 8cyl gasoline (american), w/automatic, w/factory rear bumper and hitch. I am looking for a vehicle capable of towing a Jeep Cherokee XJ on a 16ft trailer w/trailer brakes.
First off what is the discoverys tow rating? and second will it realistically handle this load?

weight to braked trailer weight .....well it ought to tow 2.5 tonne as it more or less matches its own body weight I would have thought . Power wise no prob

oh just a note on that .... the haulier round the corner from me recovers leyland 3 tonners (cargo) with a bog standard discovery .

If ya wanna get technical.

Maximum permissible towed weights
Unbraked trailers on/off road
750Kg (1653lb)
Trailers with overrun brakes
3500kg (7716lb or 3.4 tons) on-road, 1000kg (2204lb) off-road

Maximum trailer weight 2000kg, Max tow hitch load 150kg (330lb)

Maximum trailer weight (with overrun brakes) 3500kg (7716lb or 3.4 tons;) ), Max tow hitch load 250kg (551lb)

So if using a braked trailer, you can buy a small tank and tow it....

See ya. :)
