hi can any body here tell me if a r380 manual gearbox fitted to a 1993 l reg disco one, can be replaced with one from a v8 disco , both are the same age and both manual 5 speeders . the one thats fitted wont stay in reverse unless you hold it in and just makes a grinding noise . i have taken all the gear lever and covers off and when you look in at the gears one of them has lost almost off its teeth ,also the shaft that moves the forks has a lot of wear , i think i know the anwser to this but can the gear and shaft be replaced without removin the gearbox . thanks andy

front input shaft and bell housing are different,but can be swapped if you know what your doing,,again rear housing can be removed and 5th and rev changed if your careful not to break seal with brg plate and main case causing leak ,you would have to strip box on bench to change selector shaft but it wont be worn,it has 2x detents holding it the springs will be worn
