Hi people, help required!

Need to change the bearings on the O/S/F hub. (1991 200Tdi). Struggled to remove the hub from stub axle but with a good old pull, off it came. Replaced bearings & seals but now comes the stupid part, for whatever reason I cannot get the hub to slide all the way back on the stub axle. (not even enough to get the first nut to grip)

Anyone one had this problem or can just tell me where I'm going wrong????

check that there is no **** still on the inside of the hub clean the stub axle with emery paper then lube it with a drop of oil and try and try again ;)

good thought prince, i never give that a thought as someone who knows how to change the bearings should realise they are tapered

yep its all refitted the right way round but the stub axle has a lip which seems to be stopping it sliding back on.

Problem found! Some of the old bearing case had welded itself onto the stub axle, but with all grease and oil it looked like part of the stub. Tried to remove it but just damaging the stub axle, so new one now required!

Great! Just spent yesterday at Sodbury where I could of picked one up for a couple of quid!!!!

The joys of owning a Land Rover???? Thanks for advice guys.

How much damage? As long as there is "land" for the bearing to sit on at 0° 120° & 240° it will be central to the axle and still function - the low parts of the stub can be raised by centre punching as a form of knurling = a bit of loctite & you'll be ok for at least 6000miles.

Badly warped where the bearing case had welded itself solid plus a couple of light marks from grinder. Tried some emery cloth on it but no real joy.

All removed now and I should be able to get one tomorrow for about £10 - £20. (Just 1 day earlier, thats all!)
