I am looking at buying either a Discovery 4 or L322 or L405 Range Rover, and was wondering what the passenger seat heights are , when in LOWEST suspension height (access mode). I ask this as my wife has mobility problems, and we are undecided between a Discovery 4 or full fat L322/ L405 Range Rover. It will be the lower seat height of the two that we will be buying. Therefore , i would appreciate especially anybody that has had both cars for there experience. Thanks. Mick.

There’s plenty of boot space in any to carry about an orange box to stand on when getting in or out :D
I’d plump for the rangey with ever model, personal preference though just don’t like the a*se end on the disco, looks like a hearse

The D3/4 were the last real station wagon multi role vehicles. Shame they are so difficult to maintain.

Do u think, maintainence wise , don’t mean that disrespectfully, haven’t found them that bad to be honest

But suppose it’s also down to the individual where one would think it’s a lot of work where someone else wouldn’t

Cam belts? Suspension bushes??

Could always get a P38 and then just chuck £50 notes on the fire. Same result but slightly less painful.

Cam belts? Suspension bushes??

Cam belts are only every 7 x years / 105,000 miles and bushes should last 40-50,000 miles

Don’t think that’s really a difficult maintenance schedule , considering many other vehicles also need there cam belts replacing

Of course many jobs can be done without lifting the body off

Maybe I don’t mind those schedules because I like the vehicle, lol

So buy one at 80K miles and you are in for a body off job to do the cam belts PDQ, the best part of €2K at a dealer over here. Suspension bushes on my P38 have done 133K miles and are still fine.
You are welcome to your Disco.

Hi

Ouch , why they taking the body off , don’t need to , timing / aux / rear belt, tensioners , oil pump cover, water pump can all be done in 4 x hours , cost £800 , that was done by 2 x mechanics from the D3 forum

Done my rear upper arm for £150 , inc drop links and brake hoses , alas it’s normally the front lowers and rear uppers that go, then 4 x wheel alignment after

May i ask is the p38 the same weight as a D3 please, D3 brake pads are also suppose to last around 30-50,000 miles

Indeed each person prefers a particular model , did look at the L322 but insurance was very expensive

My mate does a full D3 service and both belts in a week end body on for under 900 maybe less he has done so many now he reckons he could do the belts in a single day.

I quoted a dealer price for the belts etc. the last 4 x 4 I had with a belt driven cam it was 2 hours work and cost £60.
You need deep pockets to run a modern disco.
P38 = 2.24 tonnes. Brake pads have done about 40K miles and are not in need of replacement, just the bludy pipes:(, but the pipes fail on the L322 as well and at an earlier age.
