Hi All
I was just wandering if anyone knows anyone in the Birmingham area that would change my timing belt for me ? I would of course get all the parts ready if some one wants to do the job for me ? I would get the timing belt and bearings and also the upgraded oil pump.
All i would need to know if someone is interested in taking the job on and how much they would want to do it for me ?
If anyone is local and interested in doing it please let me know could be a nice earner if someone is interested ?
Regards all

@gstuart @bongo1 it sounds really drastic doesn't it, but I suppose it was designed to be lifted clear relatively easily lol

I think early days it was a body off job but indys seem to have got round it for a lot of jobs

Helped my mate change his starter on a Defender with a 200tdi , there were times i wish we had lifted the body off .

Im interested to know how they got around it .

@1988smithy , A local mechanic done the belts for me in 5 x hours from start to finish , rear belt was done in under an hour

I also had the water pump done at the same time seeing all the belts were off

But have heard some garages will insist the body is lifted to change the belts

The rear HPFP belt on the D3 isn’t timed on the D4 it is

Alas the mechanic doesn’t do them any more after a career change , will have to find another one in 4 x years time when there due again , 105,000 miles or 7 x years , which ever come first , I only do 2-3,000 miles per year and currently on 98,000 miles

Early on even main dealers worked out ways of doing things without lifting the body. Specially bent spanners and welded lengths of rod to get them in the right place etc. If yer got the kit to lift the body it's surprisingly easy and quick ter do.

I changed the belts, water pump and oil pump on my D3 in just on 8 hours. That was at home, without lifting the body and with normal hand tools and my buzz gun. I didn't think it a particularly difficult job, but there's a lot to remove to access the front belts properly.
