Hi Guys,

Sorry if this has been discussed and resolved already but I'm new to the forum.

So my wheel bearing collapsed on my TDV6 Disco 3, which meant the reluctor ring got damaged on the end of the driveshaft and destroyed the end of the ABS sensor on the rear passenger (UK) side.

Took it to the garage and replaced the wheel bearing but as they aren't a land rover specialist they couldn't or couldn't be bothered to replace the drive shaft and sensor.

When I drove it home from the garage the dashboard was lit up like a Christmas tree and the suspension wouldn't raise so it was stuck in the lowered position. The mrs tried to drive the kids to school the next day but halfway there the hazard lights came on and the doors started locking and unlocking so she came home. when we got back we couldn't turn the hazard lights off and the battery subsequently died that night.

The following day I put a newly charged battery in it as I had one lying around for the vehicle, it then said transmission fault limited gears available, as well as hazard lights etc lit up but it would still start and drive. I changed the drive shaft that day and put a new ABS sensor on it, expecting to start it up, drive it and the faults to clear themselves, (wishful thinking.. After replacing the driveshaft and ABS sensor even more faults were thrown up on the dashboard as well as saying engine malfunction and now the car won't even start.

Had a chap who maps cars come around with his snap-on software lap-top, he could see all the faults with the gearbox, hill descent, special programs, engine malfunction etc but his laptop wouldn't communicate with the ECU to clear them. He said there was no communication with the ECU?

can anyone shed any light on why all of these faults have come around and why the engine now won't even start? it was just an ABS sensor and that has been replaced and now it seems the car has self-destructed! It has been perfect since I've had it for the last two years nothing has gone wrong (touch wood) so I am invested in resolving this and keeping her on the road.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Mate, no, it's not resolved yet. I have had someone come round with their Snap-on diagnostics computer but they couldn't clear the faults as their computer 'couldn't communicate with the ECU'. He was flummoxed, we checked all the fuses etc and nothing seemed to have blown. So I'm at a lose for what to do. I think I may have to get it recovered to a garage and probably spend more money on it than it's bloody worth to get it fixed.

I don't understand why everything was fine before this sensor issue. I've replaced the ABS sensor, and now the thing is lit up like a Christmas tree and refusing to start.

He did mention he thinks it might have immobilised itself as if it thinks its been in a crash but he still couldn't communicate with the ECU to clear that issue so any ideas you may have I would be very grateful.

Which ecu couldn't it connect to? Some? All?
Is the battery fully charged and resting at 12.7v?
You probably need a compatible diagnostic. Does the ignition turn on? what happens when you try to start it?
If the battery is no good, or the car thinks it's no good then it won't even try to start. You won't even get a click

Have you physically looked in the wheel arch to see if the air suspension ride height sensor and the abs sensor plugs and wiring are all okay?
You really need the fault codes before you go any further.
Agree with Tilly, back to the original garage for a talk.
