Put my Disco in for an MOT last week - it passed, but immobilised itself as they were about to park it & I can't deactivate the immobiliser! The garage are very friendly & tolerant of having it stuck there.....

It's a 2003 G4 special edition - basically a GS with roofbars & stickers.....

It has been playing up for a few months - apparently immobilised sometimes (no starter motor), but starting after a few turns of the key. I've had to use the EKA code to reset the immobiliser - and had to the morning I took it for the MOT. One of the issues to be sorted at the MOT was the multiple ABS/hill descent etc lights on - I forgot to ask the garage what / if was wrong.

I went to the garage expecting to EKA the car - on the first attempt, I didn't get the horn sound and it didn't take the code. 2nd attempt seemed normal - but it wouldn't fire the starter motor. Subsequently, I can't get it to acknowledge the key in the unlock position for 5 seconds.

I have a Nanocom (that I'm not v familiar with) and have tried playing with settings - maybe a bad idea....

A few years ago I had the windscreen changed - and it leaked, killing a fusebox. I've noticed a small drip recently - I'm wondering if the fusebox is dead??

Otherwise, any thoughts would be very gratefully received.

As an alternative - what does the immobiliser actually do? Inhibits the starter motor obviously, but does it inhibit the fuel injection etc? I had a 300 TDi many years ago which developed immobiliser issues and was able to get it to the garage by rigging up a switched 12v supply to the starter solenoid.

I can't comment on your immobiliser trouble, but take a look at the attachement on the Alarm system in @neilly's excellent post here:-

However regarding the ABS, hill descent lights etc. use your Nanocom to view the fault codes showing in the SLABS section, that will give you a good idea of what needs doing. The ABS light staying on is a failure at the MoT. There are a number of causes for the "3 amigos" popping up.

Your question about what the immobiliser on the D2 actually does sounds like you think that there's some way to "over-ride" it. Sorry, the whole circuit is built into the BCU, so it can't be overridden just like that.
 
the immobiliser works on the pcm so even if the engine cranks over it wont go, Might fire for a second then cut off but it wont run. :)
 
Thanks to all for the answers / suggestions. To clarify :

The car has passed its MOT, the garage having cleared the ABS etc lights - I've not yet asked them what they found, if anything. They were just about to take it off the 4 post hoist, having left it there overnight when it wouldn't start. I know the garage very well and trust them entirely - unfortunately they are 50 miles away in Inverness.......

I've not used the fob for a while - security requirements up here in the Highlands are minimal! It gave up a couple of years ago.

I had several water leaks - sunroofs (mainly fixed), windscreen (I thought that was fixed) - so took out the headlining, partly to get to the fob receiver. Couldn't fix it and rather gave up as there was a lot going on in different areas of my life! Having a working fob would be v nice, but not a necessity.

I'm wondering if the fusebox has got wet again and finally given up? I've just ordered a replacement on Ebay as it's a cheap & relatively easy way of checking.
 
If the fob doesnt work it might be as simple as the roof receiver and once the fob works to unlock it should start if the immobilisation is the problem
