Hi all

I'm new to the forum and in desperate need of some info and advice.......
My 2000 reg disco TD5 has suddenly developed a problem with the headlights. I'm only getting front sidelights (tail/number plate lights are working as per normal) I've no dipped or main beam lights at all and the main beam flasher will not work! No blue illumination on the dash. Front fog are working but I've no rears?

I've checked fuses and just replaced the switch but the same symptoms persist. Also replaced the bulbs both sides but no difference! I've checked the connections at the headlight end for any corrosion/melting but seem all ok and at the stalk end again no loose connections etc.

I'm not hearing a relay of any type, but I understand that there's only one for the dim/dip at any rate. Completely at a loss with this now!

On top of this after changing the switch and disconnecting the battery, upon reconnecting I've now lost all interior lights when doors are open and nothing's happening when the vehicle is locked/unlocked from he key. They all work individually though? Issue with the BCM here?

Any help would be greatly appreciated..........
 
Hi, not with the BCU but most probably the interior fusebox is the problem, it used to suffer from water ingress/corrosion
 
the fusebox in the compartment under ths steering wheel, the feeds from the stalk are going through it to the lamps and dash indication, the central locking and other circuits too... it's called IDM = intelligent driver module, not a simple fusebox, more complicated
 
Are there relays for the dipped and main beam lights? If the IDM was at fault would you expect the sidelights to be inop as well?

The side, main and dipped beam are each on it's own circuit and fuses, no relays involved just the stalk and the fusebox ... diconnect battery ned lead, remove it and inspect it maybe you find a dry joint or corrosion, to open it you need to insert coins all around near the clips, if nothing visible get a known good one but after you swapped it and reconnected battery put ignition on pos II and leave it so 5 minutes cos the replacement must regain digital data comms with the BCU
 
That's awesome! Just to check you mean remove the drivers side fuse box and check all connections inside? Is the wiring prone to burning out from the stalk through to the headlights at any point?

Do you think me disconnecting the battery and reconnecting has affected the programming for the interior lights as they were perfect before battery removal?

That fusebox/IDM is a common failure especially if the central locking is making tricks too, disconnecting/reconnecting the battery should'nt affect it but not impossible if it got some water though no programming involved for lighting... download a RAVE and read descriptions
 
That's great many thanks, I'll get on with wiring checks and IDM checks, just random how it went all of a sudden?
