Evening all, need a bit of help, please.
I have a Discovery 2 2001 TD5 130k, bought in Blighty exported to France a couple of weeks ago. Done nothing to her yet, other than check the fluids (motor, brake, coolant). Problem; noticed lack of power on way down a few times, noticeably uphill, may sound daft, but thought it could be me, as out of practice driving automatics (last one was RR classic 20 odd years ago!). All been well for the last 10 days odd, but over the last couple of days noticed that she's had a very noticeable loss of power after starting the first part of a relatively short journey fine and relatively normal performance (still getting used to driving 2 tons of car, and waiting for it to move!) she seems to lose power, unable to rev very high, and forgive me but there is no other way of describing this, but to my untrained ear she seems to make a bit of a "helicopter" noise, like an engine that is "missing" or running on a cylinder less than it should. In reverse, difficult to get above 1250 revs and moves backwards at a snails pace. Thought it could be TC, but just done a stall test, and it appeared to start to stall at approx 2250ish revs, which I believe is about right. Noticed that it did smoke for a second somewhere underneath, but unsure if this could be the exhaust or not. Only accelerated for a few seconds.
Think possible fuel filter, air filter and oil filter change is obviously needed, but need to order from Paddocks to be delivered over to here (as expensive here). Any ideas really appreciated.
 
Check red plug into ECU for oil ingress, if oil present on pins of plug/in ECU can cause poor starting, lack of power and missfire. Disconnect battery and unscrew retaining screw on ECU to with philips screwdriver and lift out. Search td5 injector harness if you have got oil in red plug.

Check MAF working correctly

Remove MAP sensor from intake manifold (2 8mm bolts) and check/clean

All this is free to check/clean before you order any parts
 
Maf sensor probs knackered.. Un plug and see if it runs better... Also you say you see smoke underneath... Check exhaust down pipe after turbo, flexi joint leaks are common and often go un noticed and make a horrible noise

Discodevon, thanks for your input. Do I just remove the MAF sensor, and leave the two "ends" (where the sensor was) uncoupled, or do I have to recoup le the ends prior to trial?

What I hope he meant was, disconnect the electrical plug for the MAF sensor . Leave the actual sensor in place.
