Hi Landyzone,

I'm new to the forum, and new to the wonderful world of Land Rovers.

I've just purchased my first landy, a 2000MY Disco 2 Td5 manual.

So far very I'm very impressed with the drive, it does have a power box fitted to the engine ECU - which if I'm reading postings on the net correctly - should give an improvemed drive when compared to the standard ECU's performance.

One or two niggling problems that I'm starting to sorting out.
New ignition switch - the old one kept seizing up.
Central locking - some doors wont open off the remote - luckily though all will shut by remote.
One back window doesn't work - motor needs replacing.

One or two stone chips but no body rot that I can see.

Not bad for an 11 year old !

The underneath and chassis for the most part looks good to me, some surface rust here and there but nothing major, time for a wire brush and waxoyl.

I do have one problem though that I could use a little help with.

The cross member that's behind the front bumper - the radiator sits on it - is as rotten as a pear - which seems strange given that the rest of the chassis is reasonable.

The MOT is due in May 2012 but I'm considering replacing the part before winter sets in.

Is this a job that can be tackled DIY, or is it a garage job ?

Also I cant find a part number or description for it, I've search on the net for "Discovery 2 front cross member" but I only seem to pick up engine and gear box fittings.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

John
