Hi everyone,

Unfortunately both key fobs for central locking have died and I'm not sure how I go about replacing them.

I have seen online that I can buy a new fob with the chip, but how do I program one?

Alternatively what cost would I be looking at for a replacement from Land Rover?

Any advice is welcome, I am happy to do it myself if anyone can suggest a ECU reader that doesn't cost a fortune!

When I replaced the fob on the Defender I bought a new fob which came with a dongle that coded the fob to the car. You then return the dongle for a refundable deposit. Don't know if they do the D2 keys.
Remote key co uk I think.

Interesting, and to be honest... Far cheaper than going to a dealer. Have you used that particular site before? No problems with the new fob or alarm?

Yes I have used them and the fob coded no problem, new fob worked along with the original fobs.
I did have a problem with the new fob which would drain its battery in 3 months. Sent me a new fob no problem which has been fine.

Think I'll give it a go.

Did you keep the coder, and is it possible to have two keys supplied?
 
Don't know if there is any point in keeping it, I have no idea if you could code a different key with it.
Don't see why you can't have as many keys as you like.
Send them an email.
Bear in mind you might need to swap the key blade or get the new one cut.
Defender has a separate fob.
 
Hi, Just a thought -if BOTH key fobs are not working could it be the receiver in the headlining that's u/s. Check for good ground and not wet!
Sorry I'm too far away to help with coding a new key.

Alternatively, keep the new fob on a ring with the old key, (with its fob empty).
One of my keys is like this cos the buttons on the original key broke.
If you use the fob to open the car and start the car before the red light at the bottom of the dash starts flashing, no problem. If you leave it longer, still no problem, just press the "unlock" button on the fob and then start the car.
Just couldn't be bothered to get the key cut!

Sadly not 😞 the original fob is missing the button switch on the actual chip board. The other has really bad corrosion.

I have tried soldering parts off each other to no avail.

If you are referring to the microswitch you can buy spare fobs on the bay which come with blank blades, two microswitches and spare batts.

This is what I did and I have kept what I didn't use.
