Hi all,

Just thought I'd post this to show that we don't have to be stuck with the s**t 4" speakers that Land Rover decided would be good enough for us.

Upgraded the front 4" with a pair of Alpine SXE-1025S - a tight squeeze on the LHS but go in! I put the original covers back on although it doesn't quite sit flush - no-one will notice unless they go looking for it.

At the back I wanted a bit more power as I've changed the head unit and the back door sub is now redundant. I was toying with the idea of putting 6x9's in for a while and as Halfords had some on offer while I was buying the Apline's I took the plunge and went for it.. A pair of Alpine Reference 9623i's in the basket as well then....

To cut a long story short, with the help of a spacer behind to add a bit of depth, I've managed to mount my new speakers on the D pillar where the original 4" jobs went. This has the advantage of not having to do any wiring - though you do have to drill out the rivets holding the original speakers mounting "basket".

I've put a couple of pics on of the finished article - I think they look great and sound fantastic - I can actually listen to a bit of dance music loud enough to hear it while going down the motorway!

Anyone else done this? For a couple of hours work I think it's worth the effort!

firstly my disco 1 dont have speakers in the rear pillars, i upgraded my head unit to sony, front door tweaters to sony and an infinity sub and amp in the boot dont know specs etc etc etc but the sound is crystal clear and as much bass as you would like to boot, good if yer wanna set the neibours car alrms off when yer come in at 3 in the morn!

did the same thing with 6x9's in the rear pillars, brought the panels out about an inch- but there was still not enough space behind them so now they are grafted out about 3 1/2" from the original. all sealed and sound proofed behind so air is not lost down the panels in effect making separate speaker box's.
in the front replaced the door speakers with uprated ones but still ****e so now there's 6" speakers in the door pockets capped and boxed off again making speaker box's.
hell of a lot better now!!!!!! :D
