Hi there,

I've got a Landrover 90 with a Discovery 200 TDI engine, transfer and gearbox. I've been having the problem whereby the Diff lock lights up on the dashboard binnacle but does not engage, at all.

Am I looking at a dud transfer or is there something I'm missing...

Many thanks!

Just to be clear, is the problem that the transfer box is working in both High and Low range, but the diff lock does not engage?
If so have you checked the linkages to the box?

Hi there,

Nope, currently nothing engages, it just exists as a standard drive, not sure what's going on with it.

switch could be wound in too far or slack lingage , put a 13mm spanner on diff lock spigot on t/box and turn clockwise, jack a front wheel up and see if lock engages

By "exists as standard drive" do you mean the transfer box is working in High ratio, but will not engage in Low? Does Diff lock engage in High ratio?
Does the transfer lever move as it should or is it locked in place?
The obvious candidates are either a non-functioning linkage or a broken transfer box.
If the linkages are OK I would start by checking and changing the oil in the transfer box.
