Hey everyone,

I recently bought a very cheap 1999 (or 98?) Land Rover Discovery 1 3.9 V8i Automatic, and I’m currently trying to sort out a few issues. I’d really appreciate any advice from the experts here!

Issues:

  • Lack of full power – I already replaced the MAF sensor, which improved things slightly, but it still takes 17 seconds from 0-100 km/h, which seems way too slow. Or is that normal?
  • Slight misfires at idle – Not terrible, but noticeable. I already changed the plugs and plug leads which, again, improved things but didn't eliminate the issue fully.
  • No interior illumination – The instrument cluster and center console have no illumination at all. The front map light doesn't work at all, while the second row and trunk ones didn't ever turn off so I had to disconnect them. I suspect the issue for the map lights to be the MFU but could this also be the reason for the gauge illumination not working?
  • Coolant temperature gauge not working – I replaced the sensor, but the gauge still doesn’t work. I plan to check the wiring soon, but I wanted to mention it in case it might be related to other issues.
  • Check engine light doesn’t illuminate on startup – Not sure if it should, but this seems suspicious.
  • Cruise control not working – I suspect it’s related to the check engine light not functioning, as I’ve heard that cruise control is disabled if there’s a current fault.

OBD2 or not?

I’ve read mixed information on whether the later Discovery 1 V8s have OBD2 or not. My cheap OBD2 scanner won’t connect to the car at all. Is OBD2 only available on US-spec models, or do European models (mine is from Switzerland) have it as well and there's an issue with mine?

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
