Hi all,

I'm looking to replace my front brake pads on my 1991 Discovery 3.5 v8 as the brake warning light has just come on (and got an MOT next month!).

Could do with some help here as I am pretty confused!

I've taken a look and it looks like the retaining clips in the current front brake pads are of this variety:

LAND ROVER DEFENDER 90 & DISCOVERY 1 REAR BRAKE PAD FITTING FIT KIT - STC8574 | eBay

Which every where tells me should be the rear fitting kit.

If I have this kit on my front brakes; will the spring brake pad fitting kit ie this:

DISCOVERY 1 BEARMACH FRONT BRAKE PAD FITTING KIT STC8575 89-98 200 300 TDi V8 | eBay

along with the corresponding brake pads work or do I have to fit some other variety?

Eurocarparts tell me that the spring kit will work with corresponding brake pads but I don't want to buy some pads and then be shafted with the old brakes taken off! It won't be the first time Eurocarparts have done that to me!

On a separate note; what's the best way to push the brakes back in the calipers of Discovery 1's? On other cars I've just pulled the whole caliper off and used a g clamp.

Any help would be appreciated! I'm replacing a two corroded turrets and brake pads on both sides next weekend! Should be fun... :)

re doing pads , leave one in , and push pistons of other back in with lever . gently. then fir new pad and remove old and repeat. re which kit , go by what you can see , as it may be that your particular car was built that way , or some one has modified the vehicle at some point . You could always get both possibles , and get a refund for the one you dont use HTSH

there are 2 types of caliper and pads ,earlier use the split pins and spring plates with pads with a central tab , later with 2 solid pins with pads with 2 holes for pins , solid pin wont go through an earlier caliper as holes are too small but obviously earlier split pin will fit later caliper but will be too slack in hole, just lever pistons back carefully, moving one might move another but they will all go back if you just keep pushing each back

Thanks both!

Do you know the part number for the split pin older style brake pads? I type in my reg number in different sites and it keeps bringing back the newer style brake pads with the solid pins.
