Hello Wise ones,

Got a L322 TDV6 2002 range rover 120,000 miles, Got a a "check coolant" message.
3 hours later, with cold engine I carefully unscrewed the coolant cap.

Under lots of pressure black crude oil type ****e decided to spew out of the reservoir!!!

Not impressed. No engine heating problems or any give away signs of doom except the check coolant message.

Does this sound like head gasket nightmares or worse?

Cheers the cursed One :(

I'm not up on the TDV6 but I am guessing they use an oil cooler, this is a good place to start first, if not this then possible head gasket...

Well you were right, thanks. :)

Oil cooler was replaced and the gaskett and engine has been checked and seems ok.

However, how ever long I leave the beast to cool off, like overnight the coolant still spues out all over the place, so checking the level seems impossible at the moment.

I'm sure this is not meant to happen

PS the black gold, crude oil gunk now looks like tea? The system is having another flush!!

The TDV6 was never fitted into the L322, they used the TD6 from BMW.

Head gasket failure is uncommon, but not unheard of.
