My Disco wireless came up with the word 'SECURITY' on the screen when I pluged it in

Does this mean that I have to wait for the word CODE to appear before I can put the code in

Thanks:)

if its what i think it is ............... the unit will have to switched on for around a hour before the the code can be entered

Depends on what head unit you have fitted, other than that 'maybe' :)

Acc. to my Disco manual the radio should come up with 'CODE' on the screen .. if yours isn't a standard radio then the following might not be too useful, but this is what the handbook says about security codes ..

When code appears press preset button 1
press one of the tuning buttons to enter the first digit of the security code, press preset button 1 to store it
Again to set code No 2, then 3 then 4, if the correct code has been entered a double two-tone beep will sound and the radio will work.

if the code is wrong, there will be a single beep and the first time delay will start again. During the delay period ERR will come up on the display, DON'T switch off, at the end of the delay the CODE should appear again so you can start again.

The delay period doubles each time an incorrect code is used.

Hope that helps a bit .. ;)

Is the head unit the radio?

If so then its the standard discovery radio as fitted from the factory.

Yes its a standard discovery radio and when I got the car it had 'CODE' on the screen.

I tried a code which was in the cubby box on a card but it was the wrong one.

left it a couple of days whilst I tried to get the code off the seller but he didn't know it

Took the radio out but couldn't figure out the wiring on the spare sterio that I have so shoved the Discovery one back in because I found another code on a card which relates to the radio.

I plugged it in and it came up with 'SECURITY' on the screen and has been like that for a few days.

If you head unit is a similar Philips unit which is also a CD multi player controller.to this one... then entering an incorrect code the time delay is two minutes which will double each time the incorrect code is entered ie. 2 4 8 16 33mins the unit must be switched on while the display shows 'WAIT' at the end of the delay period 'CODE' appears you can enter the correct code.

Yep its similar to that one but with a bigger screen and its a cassette player not CDs.

Only put code in once and it came up 'ERR' then it was disconnected after a couple of days I think.

Plugged back in and it says 'SECURITY'

I'll try unplugging it and starting again.

unplugged it and plugged it back in again

heres the result

Ok that helps that unit is the base model so not that standard, it has a CATS indicator the flashing lamp that flashes when the ignition switch is turned off.

All you have to do if you have entered an incorrect code is press the BND button untill the 'CODE IN' appears 3 or 4 seconds normally.. there is no time delay with this model

CATS = computer anti-theft system.
