Disco in OZ

hi all, my disco 1 3.9 v8 was being driven on petrol when it ran out and engine died ... the wife them switched over to the gas and it ran fine. after filling it up with petrol it will not start, on petrol. it starts on gas no problem.
i have checked the fuse for the fuel pump, and its ok. the fuel filter is also new. the fuel pump relay clicks when attempting to start, so i think thats ok..
is it possible to kill the fuel pump by running it dry, or is it something simple ??

how do i get it out ? i keep turning ignition but nothing... no fuel coming through filter. would this need bleeding like air in brakes ???

They can be a bit touchy these petrol pumps, they run very dry when there's not a lot of fuel about to cool it (pump heats up, evaporates petrol, seizes up)
