Was it low on fuel when you got it? could be a blocked fuel filter.TRy what mikes lr has said and then let us know

Right.

You are going to have to improve your descriptions before anyone can correctly diagnose your fault.

A common issue with TD5 is that the starter contacts wear out. You get a click but no turn over. This is easy, £10 fix. Often it will start after a few tries.

If it does turn over, then it's either out of fuel/fuel pump burnt out, or something on the engine.

Injector seals often fail which causes difficult starting, but it will usually start after a bit of a struggle and lots of cranking.

The most likely in my mind is starter itself or it's simply got air in fuel system.

When you get air in fuel, it takes ages to get it out.

Turn ignition on, pump pedal 5 times, listen for pump. When pump stops, turn off, and repeat again another 10 TIMES.

Keep priming until you can turn the ignition on and NOT GET the loud whining/whooshing sound.

When you're confident that there is no pump noise to speak of, crank that baby over.

Keep cranking in 30 second bursts. She will go eventually, and when she does there'll be a huge plume of black smoke and you'll feel like a hero, especially when you do it in a workshop :D

cheers 4 info all i can say is ive tried what mike said do with the ignition in position 2 pump 5 times and wait till managment light goes out but didnt start but there was a saucer shaped light with a drip comin from it.before this it started first turn on the few mornins ive had even in the freezing mornins.

I think that lamp is something to do with the sensor in the bottom of the fuel filter at the back of the OSR wheel.

Perhaps try and unplug it and see what happens.

And then try to unscrew the drain plug at the bottom of the filter, see if any water drains off, give it tap with a hammer for good luck, bit of wd40 on the connections and a wiggle for good luck, and try again.

Good luck!

liken ya termonolligy i.m not that machanicly minded so 4give me 4 askin were abouts is the fuel filter doh cheers 4 ya help by the way.always wanted a disco and thought it would o lasted more than a few days lol.

If you crouch down next to your drivers side rear wheel and look behind it into the wheel arch, it is a silver cylindrical item bolted to chassis, similar size to a tin of beans.

There is an electrical connector at the bottom, press the spring clip in to release it, and then unscrew the plastic wheel thingy screwed into the bottom of the main filter.

This should start to drain some diesel or water out the bottom. Let it drain for about a cupful.

Might help?
