Hi guys,

Just a quick question. I cannot seem to get my Disco 2 TD5 fuel consumption better than 8.0 km/l. The EGR blank-off mod has been done and I drive very carefully. I even follow Land Rover's recommendation to put the automatic gearbox in "N" when stationary at a traffic light or when in slow moving traffic instead of leaving the gearbox in "D".

Is this normal? Will a re-map improve this? I am not expecting 15km/l, just something a little more bearable.

Thank You

Danny

I have a 2002 manual td5 its had the egr removed and has been re-mapped I recently checked the mpg over 1000 miles I live in london so about 300 of these miles was in london traffic and the rest on country roads and motorways the way I did it was to brim the tank with fuel to start with then at 1000 miles brim it again I then checked how much fuel I had used and it worked out at 27.5 mpg I made sure I drove it as I normaly would ie-60-70mph on motorways and my usual driving in town I am happy with that I know that a manual is probably better that a auto but by how much I am not sure

My TD5 disco which is completely standard spec, gets 28 mpg on a 15 mile run. I can get 30 mpg if I take it nice and steady on a long run, say over 100 miles. When towing my 6.5 metre RIB weighing around 1.5 tonnes fully fueled, I can get it down to 22 mpg.

Hi Danny

Interesting that LR say to put it in N when in traffic.

Im still fixing my D2 so Im driving a borrowed Focus C Max 2.0 Auto, always put it in N when stopped, just seems logical thing to do.

But doesnt help mileage, much, still ave 10l/100 km!!! Worse than my D2!!!

Never needed to go into N when stationary in traffic I just stay in D and foot on the brake. :)

22.5mpg around town doesn't sound too bad, most of the Discoveries are much better on a run at constant speed, stop-starting 2.2 tonnes of vehicle is going to give poor mpg.

Land Rover quote 22.2mpg for the TD5 Auto in the urban cycle, 31.3 Extra-Urban and 30.0 combined.

2002 Disco TD5 Manual. I am still fiddling to sort out power issues, but I get 10.5km/l on average. I have done about 8 000km since buying it. Speedo now on 195 000.

Hi gents re fuel consumption on 2001 discovery 2 td5 manual
Ive been monitering the mpg and keep coming up with 35+per gallon
check this week came up with 663 miles/fuel in 82.2ltr to refill =36.4 mpg approx
60 % / 40 % - m/way--urban

30 to 33 mpg average for my last three D2's, sometimes a bit more on a run running at about 2250 rpm. Being a manual helps considerably, I doubt I could afford to run an auto.

Over 40,000 miles and recording every litre I've had 22 mpg. It's an auto - about 25% of that is towing a 1400 Kg caravan and always drive up to the speed limit.

Not brilliant but worth it to me. I suppose if I pussyfooted and drove everywhere at 50 mph it would be better.

Manual box on mine and I get around 27 mpg on my daily commute. My last Td5 with de-cat and straight through front pipe used to top 30 mpg easily, but would make my ears bleed at motorway speeds...........
