Hi was wondering has anyone ever put a disco lt77 box into a 90. I know this is a defender forum however i would like to convert my series 109 6cylinder to a 300tdi i want to change gearbox to a lt77as well. My idea is to buy a scrap disco and change the bell housing and input/first motion shaft to a 90/110 set up as i want to keep the series front/rad panel or is it to difficult to convert the disco box to 90/110 spec

lt77 isnt that straight forward to swap from disco to def,id get a defender box if i was you, ive done quite a few but unless you have all the right parts and know which are the right age related parts and the tools to strip/rebuild box

I might also just mention that those aren't that common, and no more will ever be made.
Looking in the December 2014 issue of LRO magazine, the latest one I have. Prices suggested in their price guide ranging from Shabby with MOT £3000, up to £12,500 for a mint example. Values may well have gone up since then.
Just a thought! :)

I'd keep a 6-cylinder as it is too. Far too many old series have been hacked about already IMO. Values for original examples will only ever go up.
