My 1995 disco TDI just failed its mot due to the horn not working.
Anyway I removed the horn button from steering wheel then took wheel off and the problem is the flexible copper strip that contacts the copper ring on the rear of the steering wheel is completely worn out. This copper strip is held on by a small screw so can be removed but what I'd like to know is can you buy this part and if so from where?
Its just a standard steering wheel with no airbag or cruise control.

On a serious note, since youve reminddd me of this i might knock off early and go see why mines not working. Will take pics incase they help you. Us Garys have to stick together you see as the name Gary generally reminds people of Jimmy Savile or spongebobs sidekick

It sounds like you need a rotary coupler. Do a Ebay search for one without air bag.

Dave (not Gary, Gazzer or anything beginning with G)

Pleeeeeeeeeezzzzz don't mention spongebob, he's probably listening whilst producing a spreadsheet about the prices of toilet rolls.................

This is the bit I need. The copper springy bit you can see in the photo to the left of the steering column stud.
The end of which has worn away on mine

Funny you saying that,I am actually a train driver. I'll have a word with the lads at Ramsgate maintenance depot next time I'm down there.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Not another one

We've got too many of your type on here! Do you also get tempted by the big red button of death on your GSM-R handset?

On a slight thread high-jack - i just replaced my non-airbag steering wheel with a airbag steering wheel - not that i want the air bag, in fact i really don't know why i did it, but, i did.

But how the hell do you wirte up the horn (and radio remote controls) - i ran a long wire to the horn, making sure there was plenty of slack and it still snapped the first time i went to full lock :(

I dont have that copper bit. Just a enclosed unit behind the steering wheel. Going to have to get my testers on it and see if i can find out whats going on.

Also, where is the business end of the horn?

As in the actual horns? Behind the grill one at either side

How far south are you? Cus the NRN will be switched off at the end of this year down south as Ofcom take the licence back so people in Europe can watch digitial tv. (Stupid EU)

Edit:

Just noticed - Herne Bay. You defo should have GSM-R before 31/12/2012!!! Unless you use CSR down that way? But didn't think you did...
