Got the head gasket issue resolved fairly well so far. New bill is now only
£320, which split between us is £160. For this I managed to get a new set
of glow plugs, new glow plug wiring as the mechanic broke the old one, head
gasket, valve seats recut and relapped, head skim, stem seals, cooling
system flush, thermostat, new coolant full engine service, and another full
engine service in 500 miles and 3000 miles! The original bill has been
"forgotten." As you may remember, the only bits which I was confident on
was the head skim and valve work as this had been doen by another company.
The service agreement is even in writing on the bill
Things so far seem okay, takes a lot longer to reach halfway on the temp
guage, but still ran at just below 3/4 yesterday towing the SJ on a
trailer.... So far putting it down to running in new valve seats and
surfaces....
While everything was out I managed to get them to flush the radiator and
cooling system, though I will probably end up with a new rad soon after the
crap that came out, but he is now prepared to go halves on that too! Same
with the viscous unit! His mechanic commented on how thorough I was with my
checks, like the piston protusion, and that he would probably leave any
future 200 or 300TDi engine work to a specialist....
Small Claims Court papers have been withdrawn
I think TS are great!!! I would strongly recommend approaching them if ever
you have any concerns, they love it!
