can anyone help with my door lock problem, ive got the usual snapped spring problem in the rear door that will hopefully be solved as soon as i can figour out where to fit the new spring ?
my main problem is that when trying to lock and unlock the doors from drivers side, my lock is so stiff to turn that my one and only door key has now snapped in half, i was able to remove the barrel to try and find the other end of the key (hoping to get a new one made up) but its gone (lost forever) all of the internal clips and springs inside the barrel were also shot so now i can lock and unlock the door with allmost any type of key, i am off to the local scrap yard tomorrow to hopefully get some barrels and keys but am conserned that the keys will soon snap as the locks are so stiff to turn (need 2 hands on key) can anyone help with this problem and can anyone tell me if you haveto remove the whole mechanisem to fit new spring to the rear door as the old haynes doesnt seem clear enough to me

Just done this job myself at the wekend. Your right about Haynes - no help at all. You need to disconnect the little linkages, undo the 2 screws that hold the child lock switch in place and remove it, then you need a Torq adapter socket to undo the 2 bolts that hold the main latch into the door itself. Then the whole thing will come out and you will see the remains of the little spring. I would take a digi picture or 2 of how all the linkages go because its complicated (but not rocket science by any means) You dont have to take the big black door handle assembly off the door (but you might have to if you are replacing the cylinder)

thanks for that info, ive just replaced both barrels in front doors with old classic range rover ones from the scrappy, still need to replace barrel in rear door so i may haveto take the lot apart, do you know if there is anyware else other than ebay that i can get the springs from for the rear door, (its a job that i would like to do tomorrow if i can collect the parts) cheers for all your help (hopefully have it all sorted soon)

Don't know anywhere else. The ebay ones came pretty quickly anyway and it was a fiver as opposed to goodness how much for the only other option which is a whole new latch.
