Hi all,
The impetus to join up is provided by the initial need for a little help with a Disco fault, but while I'm here...
There are two Discos in my life, and neither of them are mine. My own motor passion is on two wheels, or if on four then small, light, fast, and made in Hethel gets my pulse racing.
I like to think I have good mechanical and electrical skills, the grounding of which started when trying to keep an old motor bike for fields riding as a teenager, followed by the inevitable FS1E moped, 125cc two stroke, and later a 750cc Bonneville (which I still have). Cars of my youth included Austin 1100/1300s, Minis up to 1430cc, Escorts, and later Rovers to cater for the family. I built a kit car at 19 with a turbocharged 1600 crossflow engine (the turbo was from a bus, far too large, and produced very little boost, but all experiences add to the skillset).

I now find myself interested in tinkering with programmable electronic devices, with a bias towards automotive applications - which is just as well with modern cars being so packed with electronic stuff! It's a jargon filled world out there.

The two Discos in my life are both 2001 TD5s, an automatic version that my dad owns to pull a caravan (and can barely afford to maintain), and a manual version belonging to a comfortably off friend - but that doesn't mean I'll let him spend big time on his car (leading to disallusion and frustration, plus the risk that he'll buy something German, and then I'll have to disown him).

The first problem relates to the manual TD5 Mk2....thread to follow.

Welcome, I used to drive Mini's in the early 80's. A great car and easy to work on, just like my old landy :)
