Just got meself a 1995 Disco 300Tdi. All runs fine but bumpers look a bit cr*ppy. All the plastic has faded in the sun and the metal bits are a bit rusty. My plan is to remove all the plastic bits and repaint the bumper, but my MOT is due soon, would it still pass with plastic bits removed obviously assuming everything else is ok!!

Should do unless it exposes any sharp edges or pointy bits. You can always cover 'em in gaffer tape temporily for the MOT

The bumper ( metal) is very sharp I would MOT with the plastic in place to be on the safe side- try some " Back To Black from Halfords works a treat on faded bumper plastic

Les :D ;)

run a hot air gun or hair dryer over the plastic and it'll bring it back to black again;)

I've used black boot polish with success in the past - it does tend to rub off on ya clothes though if you brush past it.

Thanks for the tips guys, I've never had much success with back to black, never thought of trying boot polish and never heard of using hair dryer!!!

I would wait until your MOT has been done. There are lots of brackets and things that might not go back on so well. You could end up with bits hanging off that may fail an MOT!

Also the bottoms of the wing are sharp these are covered by the quarters.

i used to use a product called "armour all" (with a viking on the bottle) i think thats what it was called. much better than back to black. i'm gonna try a hot air gun on mine soon to see if it works.

This trick works 100%.

No need to worry about expensive sprays from Halfrauds either.
Get some Linseed Oil from B&Q/Focus etc and wipe on - same result.
