I have been offered a set of axles (f+r) off a 1996 disco 300tdi now i am thinking of getting them to fit to my 1992 200tdi defender so i have rear discs i have done a search and found out that the rear one fits but will the front axle fit so i have 24 spline diffs all round.

Well not strictly wrong but you should know the full facts before you do lots of work for bugger all gain.

24 spline shafts are stronger slightly. 24 spline diff centres are again slightly stronger however a shaft can twist upto 720 degrees before letting go all that energy has to go somwhere and putting that energy into your diff shaft isn't too clever. Thats why alot of people fitting 24 spline stuff damage shafts and diffs instead of just shafts. Also if its a 2 pin diff the cross pin is still as weak as a 10 spline so no gain there. IF and only IF its a 4 pin diff I'd bother to change the front. Personally the front I'd leave alone just service it. Dependant on what drive members you have if y ou fitted the 24 spline fronts you could possibly fit alloys easier if thatsyour thing again Perosnally I dpn't see the point of all the effort for little gain. Later CV's are weaker than the early type I believe.

Rear I can see your point disks are considered better by many.

the only thing you need to know is that you will also need radius arms for front as they are wider on disco rr than def before 300 tdi but apart from that better to have later all round as more choice of wheel and 24 spline diff as well as axle are stronger
